Short film extract analysis-21 Jump Street

In this scene their is a use of high key lighting-this is because this is a funny scene and the high key lighting shows the 2 main characters facial expression. Also their is use of low-key lighting this is when their buying the drug. Low-key lighting was used because when selling drugs you sell in a low-key place with low amount of lights. The low-key lighting when their getting the drugs creates an enigma code because the audience want to know why is this drug sold in cautious manor and why are these police officers going to take this drug when their job is to tackle drug. The reason why high-key lighting is used mostly in this scene is because its a school and school is public place and school takes place in the day. In this extract their is a use of funny sounds this is because the audience are in the point of view of the 2 police officers and with this weird type of music us the audience straight away know that these 2 men are on drugs and are not feeling right. In the 1.50 minute of this scene we know that from this point these 2 men are effected by the drug as some random noises and some random shots of a water melon exploding so from this point we knew that the 2 men are on drugs. The type of sound used in this scene is diegetic as the its dialogue throughout the scene. Their is high key lighting throughout this scene as throughout the scene we clearly need to see their facial expressions as that's is what this scene is about them taking a drug and the director wants us to see the reactions and how their act. Lastly in this see their is a use of non-diegetic sound as when their are on the drug we hear different  types of sounds that we don't associate with this scene-maybe this is a technique used by the director to show that these men are on drugs.

Still image analysis

Low-key lighting is a technique used in film and television to create mood or set the tone of a scene. This still image is from the exorcist. The use of lighting is Low-key. This creates an scary atmosphere because we don't what the demon will do to the doctor so the director creates an enigma code with the low-key lighting as we don't know what will happen to this man as the exorcist is really dangerous. Their is high-key lighting on the doctor this may have different meanings and different interpretations-the light is coming from the exorcist room. The shot used is a wide shot-the wide shot shows the setting and focuses on more than 1 thing and the use of high key lighting is used to focus on the doctor to show his stance.

Citizen Kane Opening Analysis

The establishing shot is a close-up of  a sign stating 'no trespassing' this creates an enigma code as the viewers/audience  want to know why you cant produce this action in the area. Then the Camera slowly moves up and then we see a long shot of a castle which is slightly blurred as this connotes is a isolated place and its a Darkened place. After this shot their are a variety of shots of the castle which builds up suspense as the audience want to know why is their such high focus on this castle. Then their is a medium shot of a window of the castle few seconds into the shot the light turn off and we know that their is somebody in the room but we don't know who it is and this builds up a enigma code as we want to know who turned the light off and who lives in this scary environment. Then we see we see A extreme close up of a globe then its zooms out to show its a globe and somebody is holding it. Then their is a low angle shot showing the globe falling down this builds up suspense as the viewers don't know why it fell down and want to know what has happened to the man that was holding it. Low-key lighting is used throughout the opening scene-key lighting techniques are also frequently used in horror films to create suspense or control how much of the surrounding scene is revealed.

The sound used is non-diegetic as the spooky sounds were edited on during the editing stages. The spooky music creates emotion to the audience. Parallel sound is used as the sounds used accompanying the scene as this is a horror movie and slow, spooky music is being used. also the music is associated with the scene a scary environment with scary music.

The use of establishing shot shows that this castle is in the middle of nowhere and we want to know if anybody stays in this Spooky castle. Extreme close up is used on the mans lips and extreme close ups are used to show general reactions or emotion except in very dramatic scenes.
