Print advert analysis (2) Nike (My time is now)

The main colour used in this print advert is orange as its Wesley Sneijder  and he represents Netherlands on the international stage. The crowd at the back are blurred but you can see the spots of orange. The orange colour connotes power and in the football scene when you see the colour orange in the football scene the things that come to mind are: Beautiful football, Johan Cruyff and Marco Van Basten's wonder goal in the 1988 euro's.  When you see the colour orange at the Euro's or world cup you will want to watch as they play beautiful football which entertains all football fans around the world.

In the middle of shot is Wesley Sneijder and on the right hand side of the shot is the slogan which is: "my time is now" followed by the Nike logo and The Netherlands National Badge.

In this advert only 1 image is used and that is the footballer- Wesley Sneijder.  This I because Nike want us the audience to focus on the footballer and the Slogan as Its Sneijder's time and his time is at the  Euro's.

The type of shot used is a medium shot and the main focus is Wesley Sneijder.

The subject matter is to promote the Nike products and the product that they are promoting here is the Netherlands kit.

The main superstar (Wesley Sneijder) has an extra lighting effect this is to make the audience to focus on him and to make him look like a superstar and to have the spot light on him. Also the lighting connotes this player could be the superstar at the tournament.

The pose used is Wesley Sneijder Pointing at the crowd this connotes that he is celebrating a goal or celebrating a assist. This shows he is confident and is on form for the tournament and is raring to go.

Dominating reading-  Nike are promoting the Euro's and want people to watch it as they are many stars taking part

Negotiated reading-  Nike may want us to buy the Nike products and to watch the euro campaign

Oppositional reading- Nike don't care about the Euro campaign they just want to make money and they use superstars to persuade us to buy the products.

Print Advert Analysis

RBK Advert

I will be analyzing Reebok's print advert. 50 Cent endorses this print advert. This advert, which contains 50 cent, has a rapper because Reebok want to show anyone from anywhere can become something. This
advert came out in 2005.

The colour which is used in this advert is black and the image is black and white. The black colour suggests that 50 cent has power and is powerful and it has a negative connotation as it shows that 50 cent may be a bad person who has been to jail and caused crime. The black denotes strength and authority that this may may be big in the hood and is looked up to. The colour black creates a negative atmosphere because black shows crime and death, but 50 cent survived 9 shootings and this shows he is a powerful man.

They are only 2 images that we focus on: the rapper and the fingerprints. This is because rebook want us to focus on the quotations used which are said by 50 cent. This advert has been put in a simple way. The way this is presented is to show 50 cent has been through difficult situations and he has overcome those situations

The type of shot on 50 cent is a close-up. Close up shots are used to focus on a subject and in this shot 50 cent is the subject in this advert. The subject of the quote which was said by 50 Cent. This also shows the audience his mood.

In this print advert no product is being advertised, but the brand is being advertised and this may give a bad image to the brand as they are using a former criminal, but they also may be some positives as its shows a celebrity who is well known in the media

This shot has been taking in a studio and been edited with a black background as the black color shows strength, power and dominance

Low key lighting has been used in this advert as it gives it a darken atmosphere as its almost like crime experience advert.

Dominant reading- The obvious reading for this print advert is that this product is aimed at teenagers that listen to 50 cent and like 50 cent.

Negotiated reading-  certain mass amount off people may think that it aimed at criminals who have been in a 50 cent sort situation e.g. been in gangs or in gangs.

Oppositional reading- This could be that Reebok is a brand that is only aimed at criminals and the people who harm the society.

Trailer mis-en-scene analysis

costumes

In the movie exorcist the main character is dressed up like a doll as in the media dolls connote horror, possessed and scary. The clothes do look very cheap and have no elegance as the dress is torn up and looks like a hospital overall. The hospital type overall shows that the lady is not well and something is wrong with her and she is mad, in contrast the Money ball characters are wearing polo shirts with trousers. This connotes that they are managers of sport teams. The polo's do look quite expensive as they can afford expensive clothes as they are baseball managers and are likely to be getting a good yearly salary. The gold/silver watches also show wealth and that they have good salaries as they can afford them. All the actors are wearing the same types of clothes as in meetings your cooperation do wear similar clothes and in this trailer they are mostly wearing polo's as this shows that they are part of a team.  In star wars most of the character are wearing weird costumes that you don't usually see in your everyday life and this shows that is sci-fi as in Sci-Fi's its usually different (different clothes, different environment and different species) This is similar to money ball and exorcist as in them 2 its like real life the people are wearing clothes that you see in your everyday life: dress ,shirts etc. By looking at what the character's are wearing: we can tell that exorcist is a horror movie, we can tell that money ball is based on real life (drama) and that star wars is a sci-fi.

Actors

In exorcist by the actor expressions and looks we can tell its a horror movie as the mass amount of make-up used on the demon. In star wars you cant really see how the actors look as they are wearing masks and the character's faces are covered, but by the masks we can tell its a sci-fi as its almost look like Roberts and Roberts are used in sci-fi movies. In money ball we can't really tell what the genre it is. We know that the movie is a drama but we cant expand, but the panicking  and arguing in the trailer shows that it may be sport based as in sports there is a mass amount of arguing by colleagues, and we can tell the guy in the black shirt is the main character as he is giving instructions, likewise in exorcist we can tell that the doll look alike is the main character as the focus is mainly on her.

props

The statue at the begging of Mary Tudor shows that this may be a freaky movie and the girl at the begging almost looks variable this shows that something may happen to the girl they is not much in the trailer but its just props that you see in a normal room and that shows that the girl was just normal before she was possessed. In contrast the Money ball trailer has many props that show its a movie about sport. Firstly they is a board in the room which has names on which are the names of the people that the team may sign for the team. They is a lot of pens and paper which shows where the team may write ideas. They is a use of certificates and awards which show that they are and team and that's the award that they have won. We know when we see the shot of him walking on the field which shows that its a baseball movie. In star wars from the first scene we know that its a sci-fi movie as we can see the stars from the star.  Then we see a rocket which also show that's a sci-fi movie. This trailer gives it away at early stages with the props, likewise with exorcist we can tell its a horror with the statue of bloody Mary, in contrast with money ball  we cant straight away tell that the movie is about sport as it gives it away in the 12th second when you see a baseball player.

Lighting

In many scenes in exorcists there is low-key lighting, this shows that the movie is scary and the light is usually on the demon which shows that she is the main character this also supports the genre which is horror in horror movies its usually dark its trying to scare you. The High key lighting in money ball is used to persuade the viewers that this is a real location and the movie is realistic and the movie is based on a true story. In the star wars trailer they is a use of under lighting as its used in sci- fi movies, In star wars the under lighting is used to create shadows and to create light on the faces. All the lighting used are different in all of the three trailers as they all similar genres, because in sport based movie there wont be high amount low-key lighting.

Make-up

There is not much use of make- up in Moneyball and Star Wars. Firstly money ball is based on men; in real life men don't use any make-up. In Star wars there is only make up used on the women characters as ladies do wear make-up and men don't, and the other character are all wearing weird costumes like: helmets and masks so there are not much used of make-up in star-wars, on the other hand they is a heavy amount of make-up used in exorcists as there is a possessed demon in the movie and they need to used make up to show this in the trailer. The make-up is used very effectively and depth as there is so much detail put in the face.

Mis-en-scene Still Image Analysis.

                                                         Hurt locker Analysis

Setting

This Image is in Iraq . This movie is a hybrid- War/action adventure. You can tell that this a war movie from the typography in the background it contains: fire, collapsed building and shattered trees this shows that bombs, guns were used and we don't usually see burning building unless its war or riots.

Costume
In this scene the character is wearing army clothes: bulletproof jacket and camo shirt and camo trousers. This connotes that this is a war based movie and this person is part of the army and he's offering his country his services. Also this connotes that this man is fearless and doesn't play by the rules.

props

In this shot you cant see many props in this shot.  The only prop that is visible is the gun that he is holding this shows that he is a solider and he is fighting for his country. He is not holding a gun but he may be doing something which does not involve shooting the opposition may be doing a secret operation.  Secondly the helmet that he is wearing shows that he is a American solider as different countries have different types of helmets.

Makeup

They is no visible make-up used in this shot. Usually in war movies they is a high amount of make-up used as its used to show: scars, cuts etc.. They may have been some minor uses of make-up on his face but is not visible in this shot.

 Actors

The rule of thirds are being used here as we don't really know which actor that is and what he is doing. By the actions of this actor I can tell that he has done some damage as everything is on fire and he is on his toes this shows that he may have done the explosion and started that fire. Or this may be the last few shots as he is in the middle of nowhere and everything is burnt and none of the other soldiers are in the shot as in the movie most off the time he is with the other 2 soldiers.

Media consumption

Newspapers

I don't buy print copy of a newspaper-but I do read the telegraph website everyday. The reason I read the telegraph is because of the reliable sources and the reliable football news.  I only check the sport section as that's what interests me. When I go on the website I usually read the breaking world news.

Magazines

When I was younger, I used to buy the Matchmag. When I got the age of 13 I stop buying as it was no seriousness involved in the news. I don't buy magazines anymore as they are none that attract my attention.

Television

I watch high amounts of television on the weekends. 11: 30 BT coverage starts for the early kick off, then Gillette soccer Saturday from 3 00 to 5 00 this has commentary off all weekend games from the premier league to the conference, Then Saturday nigh football from 5 to 7 30.  I do have breaks between to go out. Lastly on Saturdays I watch match of the day from 10 30 to 11 45. During the week I don't watch much TV: Soaps and comedy shows. Also the champions league game midweek. I usually watch the football games with my dad and my brother, but the soaps I watch myself.  My favourite TV show is Eastenders as I enjoy the storylines and the cliff hangers want me to watch it over and over again.

Cinema

I don't go cinemas and the last time I went was to watch Batman. I don't like watching movies, but I've seen 21 jump street over 5 time. I really enjoy it and think its funny. Nobody really decides who watches the movies as I only go when there is a movie I like and I've watched before e.g. Spiderman 1 to 3.

Internet
I usually be on the internet all day as it has everything from football streams to information that Is important. I access the internet from home and from school because that is where I need it. I go on most websites from bbc to Wikipedia, but the main websites are the social network websites: Facebook and twitter.  I communicate with my friends on Facebook. Twitter is to see latest news and see what my friends are talking about and  I get involved. I use BBC to look at the weather and the latest football gossip column which has transfer news. I also order thing on the internet from amazon and eBay. Also watch live football games when its not on the TV.

Trailer Analysis (Homework)

The trailer I will be analysing is James bond Skyfall. Skyfall is a Award winning British action movie. Skyfall has won multiple amount of awards including: one bafta and one Oscar award. Skyfall has got amazing reviews with a 7.8 rating on IMdb. Skyfall was released in October. Skyfall had a budget of $150 million and made over $1.1billion worldwide with ticket sales, merchandise etc.

The trailer starts with shot about the MPAA informing the viewers that the trailer is only a preview. The MPAA also decide the age railings. At the start of the trailer it shows James Bond (007) holding a gun this shows its packed with action. The use of James bond at the start of the trailer shows that he's the main character and new viewers will know that he is the main character. In the trailer they are a wide range of the shots used most noticeable was point of view shot. The reason why point of view shots were being used because there is a lot of shooting in James bond and it shows were the person is shooting. Also in the Skyfall trailer there is a mass amount of conversation and the over the shoulder shot shows conversation when its between two people.  In the trailer they are a wide ranges of shots used: Close ups and medium close up. Close ups are used to show character emotions and in the trailer it shows James bond being questioned and it the close up is used to show the emotions of the characters. The shots change between 1-3 seconds the quick change of shots builds up action and builds up suspense. In the Skyfall trailer lots of dialogue is being used little section from the movie. Also lots of Action noises are being used like bang etc. The background music causes suspense and builds up tension. The background music pitch gets higher whilst no dialogue is being used, this is because viewers want to hear what the characters are saying. The end of the trailer is where the suspense builds up and the music pitch gets higher. You can see James Bond shooting in the trailer, but you can't see what is he shooting at and you can't tell why he is shooting. This builds up suspense and this is really effective as the viewers want to know why James Bond is shooting and what was is the task in Skyfall. In the trailer they're many props that shows its an action movie: Gun, Broken laptop, dead person, flipping car and the mi6 Agents. With these new viewers will know instantly that James Bond is a action movie.

Poster Analysis (Homework)

28 days later

1) what do you think the film is about and what the storyline be?

When  I first saw the 28 days later poster I knew the movie is about people getting murdered and people getting possessed. This is because of the bright red background colour. In film promotion the colour red means: dangerous possessed etc., By looking at the poster I can tell that the storyline is about zombies there is a lonely setting with 2 people walking with weapons. Also it shows the main part of central London empty which suggest that something may have happened to the public. The 2 people on the poster have a strange body language and zombies have strange body language. Also people leave space while walking, but in this poster the 2 'zombies' are walking behind right behind each other.

2)  What genre do you think the move is?
When I see all the iconography on the poster I straight away know what the movie is a horror movie with all the iconography on the poster. Firstly the background Is red, this shows that the movie is dangerous and has violence. Secondly they are red eyes on the poster, this shows that there is violence in the movie and there is a lot of murdering and killing. Also this shows that some of the characters may be possessed.

3)  Who is the target audience

When you look at this poster its aimed at all horror fans the people who enjoy horror movies. There is text on the top of the poster which says: 'from the directors of trainspotting and the beach' this movie could be aimed at people who have watched those 2 movies before. Lastly it could be aimed at fans of the director who enjoy movies directed by Danny Boyle. The age rating is 18.  The target audience for this movie is anyone over the age of 16. Anyone younger it may be too scary or may be to hard to understand.

28 Days Later... (2002) Poster
